Alstonia scholaris is a tropical tree and its origins are in the Indian sub continent, Australasia and Malaysia. The tree is tall and has large gatherings of green, small in size fragrant flowers which bloom in the month of October.

The leaves are slightly rounded, deep green in color and along with regular branching give alstonia scholaris tree a beautiful and attractive shape.

The bark of the tree is very commonly used in traditional medicine its popularly known as dita bark.

The name scholaris is due to the wood of tree being used in making slates for school children.

The tree is also known as devil tree because it is said to possess magical powers.
